Climate Change is hitting hard

To celebrate new year 2025, I went for a short trek to Korchan Danda, hoping for the mesmerizing view of Machapuchre Himal. However, I was heartbroken to see the bare mountain without snow. It was the first moment that triggered me that climate change is real for having no snow in the permafrost region.
Standing approximately at 7000 meters, Machapuchre should have been covered with snow in peak winter, yet it is devoid of its usual white mantle. This made me realize how severe the consequences of global warming can be, and this is a serious issue to take care of. Its a warning.
According to the Climate Risk Index, Nepal is highly vulnerable to climate change, ranked as the 10th most affected country globally, experiencing more rapid changes in temperature and precipitation than the global average. Though contributing very minimally to the total global greenhouse gas emissions, Nepal is bearing severe consequences from global warming, and the situation may get worse in future. Global warming will accelerate glacier melting, increasing the risk of Glacial Lake Outbrust Floods (GLOF) and change in weather pattern leading to the unpredictable rainfall, severe drought, and landslides. Further, it will also lose biodiversity and destabilize ecosystems, leading to the loss of habitat for endangered species. Mainly, Nepal will also face impact on tourism due to change in landscape and environmental degradation. So, its not only nepal-every country should prioritize the fight against global warming to protect the earth.

Figure: The effect of climate change by the end of the century depends upon the decision we make today. Reducing carbon dioxide amounts can decrease the rate of temperature rises.
